i havent allways been into this band, the first time i heard of them they were called give up the ghost (which is kinda of backwards concidering they were american nightmare first), i was reading some music mag and saw an ad for their new record "We're Down Til We're Underground". it had a love heart made from little little bits of candy, i guess it kind of put me off checking them out, cause i thought it looked pretty gay haha (now i love it) so i sat on it for a while.
the funny thing is, i think myspace actually got me into them, from lurking peoples pages and seing american nightmare or give up the ghost in their music section. so i got on soulseek and downloaded "background music". by the third song "am/pm" i remember thinking "fuck this band is pretty fucking cool". by the final song "farewell" i was pretty much sold on american nightmare and was starting to understand why so many people rate this band so high.
i do not collect records at all, but the only record i do own is a reprint of "the ice age is coming", the first demo they put out in 2000, clearly i wasnt into them then, so i thought it would be the 2nd best to the real thing, even tho i think its the 4th re pressing of it haha. i wish i had an awesome collection of their merch, but thats kinda impossible aswell, i think horsnell has the best collection i know of haha. i allways look it up on ebay and tshirts going for $75us and hoodies for $130us.. well fuck me, and i dont think i would wear a give up the ghost tshirt cause it just wouldnt be the same. ouch
every youtube i find of them allways fails wes to complete a whole song.. like usally its because he allways getting tackled by crazed out kids or he just loses hes shit and one arm moshes around. but eather way they seemed to kill it live. like in this clip of the protest song , the crowd is singing along so loud, its fucking awesome.
The singer Wes Eisolds lyrics have proberly had the biggest effect on me than any other artist/writer ive ever came across. at times i have no idea how to relate to what hes yelling at me through the speakers, but then theres times i know exactly what he means. the idea to publish deathbeds was a great one i think. it fetured pretty much everything wes had writting to date, lyrics, poems and a few diary entrys. tho i think the book is great, i would love to read a whole book of diary entrys by the man. but the fact there was only 1000 published and now copys are on ebay for $100us plus kinda blows my mind, i dont think i will ever sell my copy.
so yeha they broke up and moved onto different things, i never really got into some girls to much, like i dont mind them but they just dont do the same thing american nightmare does for me. i wish i liked xo skeletons but i just dont like that type of music, id rather read those xo skeleton lyrics on a piece of paper than listen to that haha and the fact nicky money of horror show is in it aswell sucks aswell cause i fucking loved horror show :(
maybee one day i will get an american nightmare tattoo or something ahha but even if i dont, i think they will allways be one of my favourite bands. its 9.56pm now and i think start listening to a different band.. something to calm me down a bit cause i think listening to AN all day actually put me into a typing frenzy, i even started a thread about them and was called out about my knowledge of the band haha oh well. i dout anyone will even read this far down. cya
